His name Darby means Holy Spirit. It was derived from a Buddhist Concept of the Dharma Body similar to the idea that the Holy Spirit represents in the Christian Religion. Thus his parents combined 'Dhar' from Dharma and took 'b' and 'y' from body. The western spelling was adopted ending up with Dar-by.

Darby Ethan-Loyd Fassett, life long resident 105 Lost Lake Dr., Groton, at 22 years of age, died of accidental causes on Wednesday May 7, 2008, at his temporary residence in Hadley, MA.

He was born in Fitchburg, MA on July 5, 1985 and is the son of Daniel and Lyssa Fassett of Lost Lake Dr. in Groton. He was a graduate of Groton-Dunstable High School and was attending UMass. Amherst. He was beginning his senior year of studies as a Journalism major.

A former employee of O'Naturals in Acton, MA, he was currently employed at the Whole Foods Market in Hadley, MA. He belonged to the First Parish of Groton but was also closely affiliated with the First Religious Society in Carlisle where his Father, Dan, had served as the Director of Religious Education. He was a graduate of the Unitarian Universalist (UU) programs Coming of Age and Our Whole Lives and was also closely integrated into the multi-district UU MASSIVE Youth Conference community.

His passions in life were many. They included weather, tornados, politics (an Obama supporter), journalism, writing poetry and playing and listening to music. As a guitar player he was known for his ability to "jam out" and to write his own songs. He loved playing basketball and all sports and was an avid Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed watching movies, going to music festivals and just hanging out with his friends. If Darb was along for the ride you were always sure to have a good time! He shared the love of the outdoors with his parents and did a lot of hiking, camping and sitting around the fire.

He had one sister, Wreath Rose, deceased, and is survived by his parents Dan and Lyssa Fassett of Groton, grandparents John and Violet Gowland of Winterhaven, Florida and Mrs. Jane Black of Allston MA.
